Mike Nixon OBE FRAeS

Mike NixonMike had a long career in the Royal Navy, reaching the rank of Captain and serving in ships ranging from Aircraft Carriers to Minesweepers. He flew helicopters in the Fleet Air Arm, both operationally and as an instructor, he commanded a Gazelle Squadron, and he spent a couple of years on exchange service with the US Navy in Florida. He also commanded ships, in roles as diverse as Fishery Protection in UK waters and clearing the Northern Arabian Gulf of mines following the first Gulf War in 1991. His final military years were spent as the operational sponsor of the new Joint Strike Fighter jet.

Mike left the Navy for Rolls-Royce Defence Aerospace in 2002, in the role of Senior Vice President for UK military sales, marketing and support. It was here that he fell under the delightful spell of fly2help's founder, Phill O'Dell, and willingly agreed to be one of the charity's early trustees.

Mike's wife Natalie is herself a keen supporter of fly2help Air Smiles days. Both are passionate about the charity and are privileged to be able to give something back in the aviation environment that has been part of their lives for so long. They live in South Gloucestershire and are thrilled to see their family expanding as their two daughters get to grips with motherhood. Interests include skiing, golf, walking, good wine and cooking (this last one is a new found skill for Mike!)
