Rhys Harris - Air Smiles Day 28th July 2008
Rhys aged 7, his brother Morgan 5, and their parents Kevin & Dawn, were nominated for this special day by Rhys' godfather. Rhys suffers from NEMO - see www.cure4rhys.org - and has been in and out of hospital for most of his young life.
Rhys is deaf, but that was no problem for Mandy who is able to sign - watching them chat away together was a joy.
The whole family were flown in the beautiful "Charlie", a Long Ranger helicopter owned by friend of fly2help, David Chisnall. Their trip took them over Castle Coombe racing circuit, along the Kennet & Avon Canal and the Devizes flight of locks, past several intriguing crop circles and the ancient White Horses cut out of the chalk hillsides near Avebury.
Later in the day after visiting the control tower, the family were treated to a superb flying display by Roger Milburn and Alastair Frazer in Alastair's father's Chipmunk. Back on the ground, Roger and Alastair let the boys sit in the cockpit of the Chipmunk where they had huge fun twiddling knobs and fiddling with various instruments!
Kevin Harris said:
"We have all had a tough 2 years, and it was wonderful to share the experience and to begin bonding together as a family again".
"As a family we have recently shared some very dark moments. This occasion filled us all with light and hope for a new future together! Onwards and upwards. Thank you."
