Matthew - Air Smiles Day 29th September 2008

In the autumn of 2007, "Foster Talk" magazine ran a competition in conjunction with fly2help. Drusilla & Edward nominated their foster son, Matthew, and on 29th September this year they were finally able to come to Kemble for his special day - unfortunately, the original date planned had to be called off at the last minute because of bad weather. However, the 29th proved to be the perfect day for half an hour's exhilarating flight over Gloucestershire and Wiltshire in David Chisnall's helicopter "Charlie". After another delicious lunch at AV8 everyone was treated to an amazing fly-past from the Red Arrows - who just happened to be in the area and didn't need much persuading to make a slight detour over Kemble especially for Matthew!

And the fun didn't stop there - Matthew and his foster family paid a visit to the Control Tower to see how airports operate at close hand; at the Fire Station, there was the opportunity to explore the fire truck, sound the alarm and flash the lights, and the day ended with a VIP tour of Delta Jets (a company based at Kemble which services and restores Hawker Hunter jets). Matthew was allowed to sit in the pilot's seat - and was advised not to touch the ejector button!

Drusilla said "The day was just fantastic. fly2help has the total understanding of care to assist the less advantaged to experience delights that would otherwise be beyond their dreams - delights with a flight!"
