The RAF Pilots Raising Funds for fly2help - Land End to John O'Groats Scooter Challenge
Fourteen pilots from the RAF Red Arrows Display Team & the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight have completed a 1,000-mile sponsored marathon on a fleet of scooters. The pilots completed their four day end-to-end ride in 125cc Vespa scooters. As some members of the group did not have full bike licences, the route had to exclude motorways.
Red Arrows spokeswoman Emma Thomson said: "The main problem was the weather as we had some long spells of torrential rain. That made things a bit miserable at times but it wasn't a big thing and the guys all had fun."
The marathon made more than £4,000, which is being divided among five charities, including fly2help, Help for Heroes, the RAF Benevolent Fund, RAFA and Whizz Kids.
"fly2help are honoured to be to be a nominated charity in 2010 for both the RAF Red Arrows Display Team and also of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. This backing adds great credibility to our cause and events such as the Red Arrows Scooter Challenge helps to raise our national profile as well as raise much needed funds. We can't thank them enough for their support which will help us in turn to share more adventures and smiles with some very brave & special people." says Chris Hadlow, fly2help CEO.
