Melksham Street Party Raises £1505 for fly2help
On Saturday 24th July fly2help reaped the benefit of the inspiration and generosity of Willow Close residents, friends and family of Melksham.
The event put together by the Willow Close team, was led by Katie Chappell, whose energy & enthusiasm have been hard to ignore. Katie's next door neighbours are closely related to the charity and as longstanding volunteers for fly2help have witnessed firsthand the benefits of the charity's work on many occasions.
The street party was opened by the Mayor for Melksham and the Town Crier, who cut the aptly coloured blue and orange ribbons with the help of Douglas amid the applause of the waiting crowd. The day included many games and fete activities including a bouncy castle, stocks with sponge throwing, face painting and pavement chalk drawings to name but a few. Thanks to a large number of donations from generous local businesses, a large raffle and auction was also held.
As you will see from the photographs, the auction took an unexpected turn with an extra secret Lot... unbeknown to Mandy of fly2help, the residents started to bid for Mandy to take her turn in the Town Stocks. The final twist was that neither sponges nor water were required for the winning bidder... instead a large catering pack of Chilli Baked Beans was revealed... I think the photo's say it all - Thankfully Katie, the Street Party organiser, agreed to share the experience!
A fun-filled day was enjoyed by several hundred local supporters and the evening culminated at 22:30hrs with a mass assent of Chinese Lanterns in to the night sky over Melksham.
Mandy of fly2help says: "Despite the baked beans, we are so very grateful to Katie and the team at Willow Close for all their hard work in bringing this day together. The total raised is a credit to the hard work, enthusiasm and commitment of the team - Congratulation all! Also special thanks must go to Simon & Sue for generously providing their time and the transport which allowed fly2help to have a prominent presence on the day."
